Tour
The Mendenhall Glacier runs over a half mile wide, 1,000 feet deep and is fed by the 1,500 square mile Juneau Icefield. The U.S. Forest Service staff offers a wealth of information on glaciers during your visit and the Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center features exhibits, interactive videos and a panoramic view of the glacier. Don’t forget your camera, as the center offers the perfect vantage point for photos of this world-famous sight. Explore the numerous self-guided walking trails to experience the special beauty of Tongass National Forest and ever-changing glimpses of the glacier.
Featured on Bravo Television’s Top Chef, Gold Creek Salmon Bake is an event that’s been grilled to perfection for 38 years. Savor the aroma of wild Alaska salmon, grilling over a fragrant alderwood fire—this sumptuous all you can eat feast features our signature alderwood-grilled WILD Alaska salmon, Cheechako chicken, Chilkoot baked beans, Tongass wild-rice pilaf, hot chowder, a selection of sides, salads, beverages and homemade blueberry cake for dessert.
Beer and wine are available for purchase. Relax listening to live Alaskan folk music in a truly unique, lush rainforest environment under heated, translucent domes.
Take a short stroll along a natural salmon-spawning creek to the entrance of the Wagner Mine at beautiful Salmon Creek Falls where you can pan for gold, see mining relics, and look for salmon. Have fun roasting marshmallows over a campfire and taking photos at the interactive, gold rush mural.
