DETAILS

Join this tour on the fringe of the Tongass, where old growth temperate rainforests meet the coastal landscape for a sea adventure!

The journey begins as guests are transported out to Auke Bay, a beautiful harbor far from the hustle and bustle of downtown Juneau.  Be on the lookout for seals and bald eagles as you arrive in Auke Bay!

Prior to embarking on your voyage, your guide will teach basic kayaking and safety skills on shore.

As your group of up to 8 guests and 1 guide navigate through the small harbor, you’ll cruise by commercial fishing vessels, sailboats, live-aboard boats, and the occasional private yacht. From there, your guide will select the best route for the day’s tides and weather conditions as your group kayaks down the coast to uninhabited islands. Throughout the summer, it’s common to be joined by jumping salmon and curious harbor seals – as you glide over shallow water, keep your eyes open for starfish and anemones. Look up to the sky as eagles soar overhead, searching for their next meal.

The Auke Bay Sea Kayaking Tour is an active kayaking experience on the outskirts of Juneau suited for novice kayakers, as well as those with experience. All kayaking gear provided – rain gear available upon request at no additional charge.

After your coastal kayaking adventure, you’ll enjoy a well-deserved light snack before continuing your journey to visit the Mendenhall Glacier. At the shores of the West Glacier Trail, embark on a short 15-minute walk along Mendenhall Lake with distant views of the Mendenhall Glacier, the majestic Nugget Falls, and the surrounding mountain peaks.

This Auke Bay kayak adventure with a stopover at the magnificent Mendenhall Glacier provides an active and immersive experience, catering to both novice adventurers and those with prior experience, offering a comprehensive taste of Alaska’s coastal beauty and glacial grandeur. Renowned as one of the most visited and beloved glaciers in North America, the Mendenhall Glacier offers a quintessential Alaskan experience so don’t miss out!
